When I first learned about tech, I thought I was being too ambitious. Even the word tech struck hesitancy into my journey. I couldn’t possibly make the career jump.

I wasn’t smart enough.

I wasn’t a quick learner.

I just wasn’t good enough because those people had degrees from prestigious schools. Those people could come up with solutions that would boggle the mind. Those people were just math wizards. Those people just had something I didn’t.

And I’m here to tell you that the lies that I told myself were not true. Sure I wasn’t good at math. And sure I thought I wasn’t as intelligent but what I've come to realize is that these aren't the barriers I thought they were. Success in tech isn't reserved for a certain type of person. It's not about being a genius from the start.

It’s resiliency. And I had that in spades. When you want something, intelligence, cunning, grades, or whatever else helps people thrive, ultimately does not matter.

I am here because I refused to quit. When it kept getting harder and more difficult to proceed of course I stopped but I picked it back up because I wanted it. I had days were I thought I was an absolute failure. I had days where I would cry. I had days were I thought there would be no hope in succeeding but I continued anyways.

Why?

Probably because I was a little delusional but mostly because I simply wanted to. Do you know how many people probably started the same time as me and aren’t here currently?

Is it hundreds, or thousands?

Probably

But I'm here now, sharing my story with you, not as an exception, but as proof that persistence pays off. I'm here to tell you that doubts and setbacks are part of the journey. You won't always be the best. Mastery won't come overnight. Frustration will follow you. But it's through these challenges that you'll discover your true strength and capabilities.

But that is the beauty of a journey.

You will learn who you are and what you can do. And I promise you that no matter where you journey takes you, you are enough. Breaking into tech, landing that dream job, achieving your goals – it's all within your reach. You are enough, just as you are, with all your perceived imperfections and doubts. You possess everything required to succeed. So keep pushing forward, because your place in tech is waiting for you.
