My First Website Was Ugly

Stop thinking that you need perfection

The first time I managed to complete a website with HTML and CSS, it was ugly. The color scheme was an eye sore and the spacing between the items was non existent.

And I was proud of it because I had a accomplished a goal of mine. But I’m here to tell you, that when you first began anything, it is going to look terrible. It is going to be something you look back on with horror.

It is supposed to be that way.

You are a beginner. Don’t let the expectations of being perfect derail your future because I almost let that happen to me. I was proud of my work but because it wasn’t like others, I let myself think that I didn’t have what it took to become a web developer.

And ultimately, that made me quit my journey. I was looking for perfection in myself because that is what I saw when I looked at other websites. They had a incredible color scheme. The space of the items looked elegant. Their websites were even mobile responsive. Comparing myself to others made be feel inadequate and I stopped trying for a while.

But eventually I picked my studies back up because I had come to learn, I was measuring myself with impossible standards. The people I had been comparing myself to were miles ahead of me. They had experience and knowledge that I hadn’t even known.

I was a beginner and I needed to act like it. Nothing I started would be good or professional and that is okay. So, yes, your first website. Or your first design. Or your first network configuration will be terrible. You are a beginner and you are still learning. All that matters is that you continue to grow and find your own path to success!
