- What Fuels You?

When people ask, “Why did you break into tech?”, I know mostly everyone wants to give an inspiring, deeply personal answer. They want to say they are passionate and want to change the world.
For me, those things mattered, but they were not the most important reason why I transitioned.
My most important reason was that I was tired of struggling financially. I wanted to be able to provide something better for my family. My reason was monetary, and that is perfectly fine but others will judge.
They will say, it’s not a good enough reason.
They will say, it won’t sustain you during difficult times.
They will say that if you want it for the money then you will not last long.
But they are wrong.
I studied, I built, I quit, and I started up again and then I repeated that process until I broke into tech.
And five years later, I am here.
And my motivations are still the same. Sure, I like what I do. I like helping others with their problem and I like problem solving but at the end of the day, what still keeps me motivated is my potential earnings.
And that reason is valid.
No matter the reason, it should make sense to you. If you are fueled by pettiness, let it fuel you. If you are fueled by passion, let it fuel you. If you are fueled by money, let it fuel you.
You don’t need some grand reason to change your life. And you don’t need to listen to anyone who tells you your reason isn’t valid.
Find something that will motivate you and stick to your plan!
