How Not to Breaking Into Tech

Here is what not to do

In partnership with

I’ve noticed that everyone gives their own tips and instructions on how to succeed in breaking into tech.

But no one does the opposite.

Don’t Expect Overnight Success

In the age of social media, all you see are seemingly overnight success stories. People who don’t have to work hard and just by chances are granted a life of leisure. If you want to break into tech, that will not be you. You will have to put in long hours. You will have to be frustrated. There is no way around it.

Don’t Stop Learning

This is not like highschool or college, when once they hand you a diploma, you can stop cracking open a book. Learning is a lifelong journey when trying to break into tech and I see so many people give it up because they have their foot in the door. If you want to excel in tech, always be open to learning new things.

Don’t Chase Fads

There are many technologies that come and go. And the people go even quicker. Don’t try to drop one thing to go to another, just because experts say it will be the next big things. Stick to the technologies that have been here a while. Once you have those down, then you can branch out.

Don't Isolate Yourself

I remember in the beginning of my journey I thought it would be weak to ask for help. I wouldn’t really be doing it myself, and I wouldn’t be learning. And I would spend days on a problem. Wasting time, when I could just ask for help. We all will need it at some point in our journey. The sooner you start asking, the better you will become for it because you can’t do this alone.

These are the most helpful tips that I think can better your journey. But it is up to you to steer yourself in the right direction. Stay focus, stay positive and you will get there!
