Journaling Your Learning

Write it down

I have been studying GraphQL, AI/ML, Azure, and Django. Some technologies are too advance my career, and others have recently piqued my interest. Although this learning has been fun, it has been overwhelming.

So, how have I dealt with it?

By journaling!

When I stumbled across the idea to start journaling, I thought it would be unhelpful. But then I started, and it has given me clarity and structure to end and start my day.

Here are the things I try to write down:

  • Daily Recap: What I learned, new definitions, and how topics connect.

  • Focus Points: What I couldn't recall, for next-day review.

And honestly, this new step in my routine has been a game changer for me. I am not just mindlessly consuming information. I am writing it down, and processing it. Of course, you don’t have to replicate my process. Do what is right for you!

  • Experiment: Try different formats. Digital, physical, voice memos – explore what feels natural. For now, writing works for me!

  • Timing is Key: Maybe you like to lay with your thoughts, so mornings could be best for you?

  • Tools: I use pen and paper. However, you might prefer to voice record or have a note-taking app.

  • Make it Yours: Add sketches, mind maps, or whatever helps you connect with the material.

I focus on two aspects. You, however, could find a different method. The point is, find something that works for you. Journaling has opened my mind to the fact that I won’t be able to remember everything and every day I have to work at getting a little better. So, find your way to get a little better each day. Find a system that allows you to process information effectively, track your progress, and stay motivated.
