Oh, it's easier than....
Stop comparing
When I hear the sentence, Frontend is easier than Backend, I immediately cringe because people often make these claims.
“People have it so much easier in the Frontend”
“The reason Frontend is oversaturated is because it is easier”
“Frontend developers aren’t real software engineers”
And my response is always, “Okay, and?”
What was your reason for bringing that up?
And the possible answer I have for leading with that sentence is this:
They are trying to belittle your choice and make themselves seem smarter
When people gripe about the Front End, it’s always someone who has never experienced the hellscape that is the Front End. People think that because pretty colors are involved, it is somehow less.
It’s not.
The front end is not just a bunch of pretty colors. It’s design, it’s user experience, it’s creating an experience in all mediums (laptop, phone, tablet) that has the user coming back. It’s about crafting optimized performances and interactions.
It’s so much more. And when people dismiss it because it involves a visual aspect rather than just plain coding, it does it a disservice, giving the reputation as less than.
And this leads to my second point: Backend developers aren't inherently "smarter." They simply have different strengths and preferences, and face their own unique challenges. I've tried backend; it wasn't for me.
I chose frontend because I'm a visual person. I enjoy seeing my work reflected on the screen. I chose it because I genuinely enjoy it, not because it's "easier." Both disciplines offer unique experiences.
If you enjoy the visual aspects of software engineering, choose frontend. If you prefer data and behind-the-scenes work, choose backend.
Ultimately, regardless of your path, don't let anyone deter you by claiming it's "easier." What matters is your passion and enjoyment!
