Over Saturation is All I Hear About

Saturation in tech is a problem, should I pursue it?

Saturation.

That's a word I hear thrown around a lot.

It's a word I heard a lot as well when I started over 5 years ago.

Yet, here I am.

Keyword, I.

Do you think the same amount of people who started at the same time as I did, are here?

Chances are, they aren't.

Sure, there will be hordes of people flocking to what is lucrative but once it gets hard, once it gets challenging, will they stick around?

That is the only question you have to ask yourself.

Will you still be here when it gets difficult?

If you can answer yes, you will make it.

And if you do these 3 things, you will make it:

Study

I know this sounds like an easy concept and anyone can do it but can you do it consistently? When you are new and fresh to a topic, excitement fuels your thirst for knowledge and it will seem like a walk in the park. But as the days go by and it becomes monotonous will you be able to summon up that excitement when everything bleeds together? When you are exhausted and on your last leg can you muster up that little bit of energy to crack open a book and read? Will you be able to then?

Apply

This is where most people bow out. Frustrations build and they just quit. I should know, it happened to me numerous times. I was trying to apply what I studied it wouldn’t work most of the time but that is the magic of learning. When you apply what you’ve been studying, you are going to fail but in that failure will come success when you finally break through. You will retain that information much quicker if you don’t apply what you learn.

Build

This is the culmination of all of your efforts. This is where what you’ve been studying and applying is actually put to the test. This is where you build out anything you want. Just make sure it interests you, if it doesn’t then you will quit quickly. So, what interests you? It could be anything you think about. Have you ever thought, that would be awesome to build? You have your idea, now go do it

All of these things will work in tandem to get you where you want to be and saturation will be just another word in your vocabulary because ultimately it will mean nothing.

It is just a word to scare you away because people don’t want competition but remember you are not competing against anyone else. Your journey is yours alone. So, get studying, start applying & begin building. And watch 'saturation' fade into oblivion.
