How To Start

Taking your first steps

I’m not trying to have Nike busting down my door with a lawsuit in hand.

But just do it.

When I first started, I had a vague sense of my goal. I wanted to be involved in an area where creativity and visuals were prominent. I researched those interests and front-end development captured my attention.

And that led me to HTML.

I didn’t know what HTML was. I didn’t even know what it stood for. All I knew was that if I wanted to be a front-end developer, HTML was just one of the topics I had to learn. Of course, I had heard of CSS, Javascript, React, and a whole slew of technologies but that wasn’t my worry. The research suggested that I start with HTML first and that is what I did.

I didn’t worry about the medium I was going to choose. I chose the first editor that would help me with my goal. I didn’t worry about what browser I was going to practice in. I didn’t worry about if I couldn’t understand some concepts. And I didn’t worry about what would happen if I failed.

I just started.

And that is hard for some people. Doubts and insecurities keep them from even taking that first step. They make excuses and find ways to delay what could be a potentially life-changing decision because they are unsure. It’s still to take that first step if you are unsure. It’s okay to take that first step because the only thing you need to start your journey is direction.

Ask yourself; What do you like? What can you envision yourself doing? And that is all you need. Don’t get bogged down in the details that don’t matter. And don’t worry about what is going to happen down the road. Just start now. and the rest will follow!
