The Bleakness
Layoffs and firings.
Everywhere you turn, you hear about layoffs and firings. You see people counting the days of unemployment. The frustration and hopelessness dominate every post you encounter and it doesn’t just fall into a void.
It festers, infecting everyone, and you start to ask the question: “Am I next?”
I ask myself that question every single day. I know I’m expendable and if you work for any company, you should know that you are as well. That’s why you cannot depend on anyone else to secure your career or your future.
The only person you can depend on is yourself.
That’s why I study after work. Why I grind for myself, not just for my employer. Because in this climate, the slightest misstep by a company spells disaster for everyone. They will get rid of you the moment they need to. That’s why you have to stand out and up-skill.
I know those up-skilling efforts can feel pointless, but one day they won’t. This current job-market cycle is when you need to dig your heels in, plant your feet, and remain rooted in discipline. While others are bogged down by misfortune, you can’t afford to get distracted.
You have to better yourself each day, because one day the market will turn around. And when it does, what skills will you have to show for it?
The bleakness is real. The layoffs are real. But despair only wins if you let it paralyze you. The only way to combat the hopelessness you see online is to commit to your own growth.
Don’t work hard for your company’s survival—work smart for your own.
The future belongs to the prepared, the adaptable, and the relentless.
Be one of them.
Stay relentless.
